Welcome to Napa Valley Airport
"Gateway to the Wine Country"
The airport
was originally constructed by the U.S. military during World War II. It is
now owned
and
operated by Napa County. It has been improved over the years with the
addition of a control tower, instrumentation, runway lights and other
improvements. Napa Airport is now considered one of the finest general
aviation airports in the greater Bay Area. Japan Air Lines maintains a
multi-million dollar airline pilot training facility at the airport.
Napa Airport is a subdivision under the Public
Works Department. A seven member airport advisory board oversees the
planning and development of the airport. These members are appointed by the
five person county supervisorial group. It is directed by an Airport Manager
and employees four additional staff.
Napa Airport is located in what was once the
undeveloped southern part of the county. This no longer holds true. Napa
Valley Corporate Park just north of the airport and the Gateway Project
along the entrance road to the airport have brought a large variety of
industries to this area and the end is not in sight. This growth will see
greater corporate use for the facilities at Napa Airport. Napa County has
projected additional improvements with the construction of additional
hangars, both corporate and general aviation.
Strongly influenced by the built-in air
conditioning of the San Francisco Bay, Napa County enjoys a smog-free
moderate climate. Average temperatures range from the mid 30's to the mid
80's respectively. Even on those rare days when the temperature reaches the
high 90's or low 100's, the evenings cool off and are quite comfortable.
Average rainfall is 23.88 inches in Napa with the majority occurring from
November through March.
Although ground transportation providers are not
physically based on the airport, various well-known rental agencies are
located in Napa and serve the airport. There are also various vehicle
charter services in the area as well as one that provides large bus
transportation for large groups flying into the airport.
The excellent highway system makes Napa County very
accessible to all of the Bay Area and the Sacramento Valley. Napa Valley
boasts facilities with excellent overnight accommodations as well as several
with excellent meeting and convention facilities.
Jonesy's Famous Steak House started on Napa Airport
with very humble beginnings. It has grown into a restaurant of great renown
and for the past 40+ years has been noted for its fine steaks. Napa County
with a reputation for producing some of the world's finest wines, is equally
famous for its fine restaurants and this list grows. Don't forget most of
the larger wineries offer tours and tasting. Arrange to visit some of them
when you're in the area.
Many golf and tennis facilities are within an easy
drive of the airport. The world famous Silverado Country Club and Resort,
Chardonnay Golf Course and a nice municipal golf course called Kennedy Park
are within easy access of the airport. Lake Berryessa with 165 miles of
shoreline, resorts and restaurants is in Napa County. Launching facilities,
houseboat rentals and all water sports are available at this aquatic
playground. For those who like to do the "out of the ordinary." hot air
ballooning is also available. And don't forget Marine World Africa USA is
just south in nearby Vallejo, a mere 10 minutes by car.
